Legend has it that original bridesmaids wore identical wedding veils as the bride to ward off evil spirits. Another story was to create enough confusion that spurned suitors couldn't swoop in easily and abduct the bride. However, the most common reason now is pure fashion. With the rise of vintage-themed weddings, brides are dressing themselves and their bridesmaids in styles that are reminiscent when women did wear veils!
